Biography

The representative of the non-titled branch of the Thick . The son of General from Infantry N. M. Tolstoy , grandson A. Z. Khitrovo , great-grandson of M. I. Kutuzov . Named after the father of the latter.

January 19, 1843 entered the Page Corps . On August 8, he was promoted to lieutenant of the Life Guards Preobrazhensky Regiment. He was appointed on August 16, 1851 to follow the battalion departing to Moscow from this mission on August 16, 1851. Together with the battalion, he returned on September 18 of the same year. From December 6, 1853, second lieutenant, from August 22, 1854, lieutenant. From March 9 to September 6, Ivan Nikolaevich was in the composition of the troops guarding the coast of St. Petersburg and Vyborg gubernia, on the occasion of the Eastern war. After the accession to the throne of Emperor Alexander II, February 19, 1855, Hilarion Nikolayevich, among other former subordinates of His Majesty, was declared the royal favor.

March 19, 1856, he was approved by the company commander, and on April 15 he was promoted to captain-captain. Then from July 19 to September 20 he was in Moscow, as part of a detachment of troops of the Guards and Grenadier Corps, assembled there on the occasion of the Holy Coronation of Their Imperial Majesties.

On the occasion of the abolition of one of the rifle companies on September 18, 1857, it was renamed to subaltern officers. May 17, 1858 Illarion Nikolayevich was dismissed in 11 months leave, but due to illness, this leave was extended for another 3 months and 28 days. On March 25, 1860, he was appointed clerk for the quartermaster regimental economic committee. A year later, on April 19, he was appointed company commander, and on April 17, he was appointed to the adjutant wing and then, on April 21, he was expelled from the front to His Majesty's Suite. The captains Illarion Nikolayevich produced April 16, 1863, in the colonels on April 4, 1864. From September 17 to October 17, 1866, Hilarion Nikolayevich, by imperial order, was with Prince Wertemberg, during His Highness's stay in St. Petersburg.

On April 16, 1867, he was awarded the Order of Saint Vladimir of 4 degrees, and in the same year from October 17 to October 29, he was with the King of the Hellenes, during His Majesty's stay in St. Petersburg. On August 30, 1869, he was awarded the Order of Saint Anna of the 2nd degree, on August 17, 1871 he was sent to the city of Cetinje, for perception from the font, in the Name of His Majesty, the newborn son of the Prince of Montenegro Nicholas Daniil Alexander, and he was granted the Order of Prince Daniil of the 1st degree .

From March 10 to April 26, 1872 was under Prince Wilhelm of Baden, on April 17 he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir of the 3rd degree. From December 15, 1873 to January 20, 1874, he was under the crown prince of Denmark.

For distinguished service, Illarion Nikolayevich was promoted to major general, with an appointment to His Majesty's retinue and enrolling for army infantry. Since the beginning of the war of 1877–1878, he was sent to Chisinau for the state under His Majesty, on April 18, he was appointed to the highest level by the August Party Commander-in-Chief of the Danube Army. After crossing the Danube River near the city of Galati, Illarion Nikolayevich on June 9, 1877, was sent by the Emperor to the enemy shore to the detachment of General Zhukov, to declare to the fighting troops of the Monarchy favor and to distribute the insignia of the Military Order, for personal appointment of His Majesty.

From June 25, he was in the 9th Army Corps, with whom he participated in the movement to the fortress of Nikopol, and when captured, he was awarded a golden saber with an inscription for bravery. On July 7 of the same year, Illarion Nikolayevich was, by imperial order, sent to St. Petersburg to take back banners taken at the fortress of Nikopol. Illarion Nikolayevich received a silver monogram on the memory of his stay with the Emperor Emperor in the Army.

On August 30, 1880, he was awarded the Order of St. Stanislav of the 1st degree, according to the Imperial order, he was in 1881 under the Landgrave Frederick of Hesse, during His stay in St. Petersburg, and in 1883 under Prince Nikolai of Chernogorsky during His stay in Moscow under the Holy Coronation in Bose of the resting Emperor Alexander III. On January 1, 1885, he was awarded the Order of St. Anna of 1 degree, on August 30, 1885, he was promoted to lieutenant-general with a transfer to the reserve of army infantry, and on June 2, 1888, he was dismissed.

On May 12, 1857, he married the maid of honor to Princess Alexandra Golitsyna (1823–1918), the daughter of State Secretary A. F. Golitsyn , the heiress of the Rotaveno estate in Kutaisovo (in Zvenigorod district). Married born:

  • Hope (11/03/1860-1937), married to Chamberlain Alexander Taneyev ; they have a daughter, Anna (Vyrubova) .
  • Catherine (04/06/1862-1916), married to Nikolai Dmitrievich Vsevolozhsky (1860-1891).
