Biography

Born in August 1924 in the village of Psauchye-Dakh of the Karachay-Cherkess Autonomous Region (now part of the Khabez district of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic ). Circassian . He graduated from high school at home, then studied at a teacher training college in Cherkessk [1] .

In April 1943 he was drafted into the Red Army . After training in spare parts in the village of Aparinskaya ( Rostov Region ), he was sent to the army. In the battles of World War II from September 1943. He fought as part of the 65th Cavalry Regiment of the 32nd Smolensk Cavalry Division of the 3rd Guards Cavalry Corps , showing courage and heroism. Especially distinguished during the offensive battles of the Belarusian strategic operation .

So, on the day of the battle on June 23, 1944, with the fire of his machine gun, he destroyed up to 150 enemy soldiers and officers, 5 enemy machine-gun crews, 2 mortar crews, and knocked out 10 vehicles.

In the battle on July 16, 1944, near the village of Pyshki , he repelled four enemy counterattacks with machine-gun fire, inflicting significant damage on him.

Feat

In the battle on July 23, 1944, when the city of Augustow in the Bialystok region of the Byelorussian SSR was captured (now in the Podlaskie Voivodeship in Poland ), it repelled 6 enemy counterattacks, killing up to 60 of its soldiers and officers. In the last counterattack, he fought to the last bullet. When all the ammunition was over and the Germans came close, Private Ohid Kardanov pulled out and threw the machine gun shutter so that the enemy could not use his weapons. Entered in hand-to-hand combat and died in this battle. Posthumously presented to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union , but was not awarded. A month later, he was posthumously awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree [2] .

For courage and heroism shown in the fight against Nazi invaders in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 749 of June 30, 1998, ordinary Kardanov Ohid Mussovich was awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation (posthumously).
