Geography
The city and commune of Montfort en Chaloss is located in the extreme south-west of France, in the Landes department of the Aquitaine region . The city lies on the banks of the River Cazaux , one of the tributaries of the Liu . The commune is inhabited by Gascons and is called Monhòrt in Gascon.
History
The city emerged in the XIII century as a bastide - fortified settlement (about 1241), built by the British as well as a number of other castles and bastids, to assert its authority in Aquitaine in response to the claims of Louis IX of France. On March 24, 1526, King Francis I visited Montfort-en-Chalossos .
Of the monuments preserved in the city, the church of Saint-Pierre (XIII century), as well as the back of the museum of Shaloss (XIX century) should be called.
