Biography

Gotti was born in 1940 into a poor Italian family , grew up on the streets of the South Bronx, then moved to Queens . He was one of thirteen children in the family and one of the five brothers who later became members of the Gambino family. At age 16, Gotti dropped out of school and joined the Fulton-Rockaway Boys gang, which worked closely with the mafia. There he met with Angelo Rudgeiro and Wilfred "Willie Boy" Johnson. During this period, Gotti contacted the Carmine Charlie Wagon team of Fatiko, the capo of the Gambino family in Brooklyn. In the early 1970s, the Fatiko team moved to the Ozone Park area (Queens).

As a teenager, Gotti carried out the assignments of Fatiko, later he was engaged in hijacking trucks at Idlewild Airport with his brother Gene and friend Rugeiro. March 6, 1962, John Gotti married Italian-American Victoria Di Giorgio. The couple in the future had five children: Victoria, John Jr., Frank, Angela and Peter. In 1969, Gotti was convicted of armed robbery of a truck, served his sentence in the Lewisburg prison in Philadelphia, was released in 1973, and already in 1975 was convicted of murder, but served only two years.

At the end of 1977, Gotti became a member of the Gambino family and was included in the "team" Carmine Fatico. After the arrest of Fatiko for usury, Gotti, who was considered the protégé of deputy boss Agnello Dellacroce, was promoted to acting capo . In December 1978, Gotti participated in organizing the largest robbery of Lufthansa Airlines at Kennedy Airport .

On December 16, 1985, John Gotti and Sammy “Bull” Gravano organized the assassination of Gambino family boss Paul Castellano and his deputy Tommy Bilotti, whom the killers shot at the Sparks restaurant in Manhattan. A few weeks later, Gotti became the boss of the Gambino family. In 1986, an attempt was made on Gotti's life, then he was acquitted three times by the court.

In 1992, thanks to the testimony of his deputy, Salvatore Gravano, who agreed to cooperate with the authorities, Gotti was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and racketeering. In 1990-2002, John Gotti was imprisoned; on June 10, 2002, he died in prison from throat cancer [1] [2] .
