History
The title of Marquise dates back to Robert Stewart, Viscount Kestlry ( born Robert Stewart, 1st Marquess of Londonderry ), which since 1816 became known as the Marquis of Londonderry [1] .
His son, Robert Stuart Castlelery (1769–1822), was first a member of the Irish Lower House, House of Commons, and Minister of War.
Then his title passed to his half-brother Charles-William Ven, earlier Stuart ( Eng. Charles Vane, 3rd Marquess of Londonderry , 1778-1854), who fought at Moore and Wellington in Spain , later a diplomat, member of the Tori opposition parliament, in 1837 who traveled through St. Petersburg and Constantinople to the East and wrote: “History of the war in Spain” (1829), “The late war in Germany and France” (1838), “Recollections of a tour in the North of Europe” (1838), Steam voyage to Constantinople (1842). From 1846 to 1853, he published part of his brother's correspondence; another, larger, died during a shipwreck [1] .
Sixth Marquis of Londonderry Charles Stewart served as Minister of Education. Since its inception, the title of Marquis of Londonderry has been inherited eight times; The now-living ninth Marquis of Londonderry was born in 1937.
