Convair CV-240

Convair CV-240 - American propeller-driven aircraft, airliner for short and medium lines. Developed by Convair and mass-produced in 1947-1954, in many civilian and military versions. General release, taking into account all modifications - 1181 aircraft. It was widely exploited in civil aviation and in the military departments of many countries.

Aircraft Development

The aircraft was developed by order of American Airlines as a replacement for the Douglas DC-3 . The first flight of the prototype (No. N90849) was completed in March 1947. After a number of changes, the machine was named Model 240. This model was launched into mass production. In the future, with improvement, improved versions of the aircraft were produced - the Super 240, CV-340, and CV-440 series. Models 540, 580, 600, 640 - aircraft of previous production series, converted for turboprop engines.

The first planes went on regular flights to the American airline on February 23, 1948. 75 aircraft were delivered to the American Airlines airline, 50 - Western Airlines, Continental Airlines, Pan American World Airways, KLM, Swissair, Sabena and Trans Australia Airlines.
