Title
At the suggestion of Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev, the mosque was called "Khazret Sultan", which means "Holy Sultan." As you know, “Khazret Sultan” is one of the epithets of the Sufi sheikh Khoja Ahmed Yasawi , the author of “Divan-i Hikmet”, whose mausoleum is located in Turkestan .
Construction
The construction of the mosque was launched in Astana in June 2009 . In different periods, from 1000 to 1500 people were involved. On July 6, 2012 at 12:30 a mosque was opened, which replenished the list of unique objects of the capital.
Features
The building was built in the classical Islamic style with the use of traditional Kazakh ornaments. The mosque located on the right bank of the Esil River is adjacent to the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation and the Kazakh Eli Monument. It can accommodate five thousand worshipers, and on holidays - up to 10 thousand people. The area of the entire Hazret Sultan mosque is over 11 hectares, and the area of structures is 17,700 square meters [3] . Khazret Sultan has the largest dome in Kazakhstan , 51 meters high and 28.1 meters in diameter at the base of the dome. The mosque also has eight small domes with diameters of 10.45 and 7.6 meters, and peaks - 33.46 and 25, 25 meters. In the corners of the mosque there are 4 minarets with a height of 77 m. According to the architectural plan, the temple should crown a 80-meter spire with a crescent moon directed strictly towards Mecca. With regard to the functionality of this facility, it can be noted that the building provides rooms for bathing and a wedding ritual, reading rooms of the Koran and classes of educational groups. In a word, this grandiose construction meets all modern requirements.
