The Leont'evs declared their ancestor Murza Abatur , who left 1408 from the Great Horde to Ryazan under the Grand Duke Theodore Olegovich and adopted Christianity with the name Methodius [1] . Bishop Efrosin II Zvenets of Ryazan and Murom baptized him. He received the patrimony in the Kashira volost of the Grand Duchy of Ryazan, on the right bank of the Oka .
In the XV century, the descendants of Murza Abatur were named after Glebova , named after his son Gleb Baturinich; in the sixteenth century, the Stepanovs , named after his great-grandson Stepan Semenovich (under this name, many representatives of the genus were recorded in the Thousand Book of 1550 [2] ), and Durnov, nicknamed one of the ancestors.
Fedor Stepanovich (great-great-grandson of Abatura-Methodius) left two sons, Leonty and Peter, of whom the second became the ancestor of the Petrovo-Solovovs , and the first - the Leontiev clan. Several branches of the clan originate from the children of Leonty, in the modern classification they received names by the names of their main estates or nicknames of the ancestors.
Patriarch Filaret Nikitich had butler Danilo Yuryevich Leontyev, whose great-grandchildren Ivan Yuryevich and Vasily Yuryevich Leontyev were governors in Smolensk at the end of the 17th century.
The court adviser Nikolai Andreevich Leontiev in 1800 was included in the VI part of the noble genealogy of the Kazan province .
From the possessions of the Leontief received the name Leontievsky Lane in the center of Moscow .
