Baghdad Encounters (Eng. They Came to Baghdad ) is a detective novel by Agatha Christie . First published in the UK by Collins Crime Club on March 5, 1951 and in the United States by Dodd, Mead and Company later in the year.
Agatha Christie was encouraged to write this book by traveling to Baghdad with her second husband, archaeologist Max Mullovan . This is one of Christie's few spy drama novels.
Story
A secret summit of superpowers will be held in Baghdad , but the secret is revealed, and fascist groups conspire to sabotage the event. Victoria Jones, a young tourist, discovers the secret of a British agent, Henry Fakira Carmichael, who is dying in his hotel room; his last words - "Lucifer ... Basra ... Lafarge" - prompt her to investigate. “Lucifer” is the inspirer of Victoria Edward's lover. Basra is the city in which the transfer of classified documents took place. “Lafarge” turns out to be “Defarge” - the key to where the above mentioned documents can be found.
