Career

Club

Jan Schweglik came to Bratislava to study law , but he soon became a member of Slovan , although he had not played football at a professional level before [2] . Having made his debut in the double of the Bratislava club in 1969 [3] , Schweglik quickly became the team's main center forward , in the first season he became the champion of Czechoslovakia in its composition. For 13 years (intermittently) in Slovan, Schweglik won the championship twice more and twice the Czechoslovak Cup [3] . Standing out due to speed and scoring flair, Schweglik was one of the stars of Czechoslovak football in the first half of the 70s [2] .

Schweglik served in the army at Prague 's Dukla in the 1976/77 season. Arriving at the club as a well-known player, he could not gain a foothold in the base, played very little and, upon returning to Slovan, could no longer return to the previous level [2] . Nevertheless, as part of the "Dukla" Schweglik became the champion of Czechoslovakia [4] .

Having played one season in the Belgian Hasselt , Schweglik once again returned to Slovan, and ended his career in Austria , in the club of the regional league Sankt Pölten [4] .

In the first Czechoslovak league, Jan Schweglik spent 296 matches, scoring 79 goals [4] .

Team

Jan Schweglik played for the youth team of Czechoslovakia , won with the team the very first draw of the European Youth Championship in 1972 [4] .

In the first team, Schweglik made his debut on April 27, 1974 in a friendly match against the French team [5] . Schweglik played in 4 matches of the 1976 European Championship qualifying tournament , including the return quarter-finals against the USSR national team [5] . During the final tournament, CH Schweglik started in the decisive match against Germany and in the 8th minute after the transfer of Zdenek Negody opened the scoring [6] . The Czechoslovak national team ultimately won the penalty shoot-out .

After the 1976 European Championship, Jan Schweglik did not play for the national team for 3 years, most recently appearing in the national team on May 5, 1979 in a friendly meeting with the national team of the Soviet Union [5] . During the break, Schweglik replaced Yaroslav Pollak , the match ended in victory for the Soviet players with a score of 3: 0 [7] .

In total, Jan Schweglik spent 17 matches for the Czechoslovak team, scoring 4 goals [5] .
