Sergei Grigorievich Grigoriev (October 12 (24), 1874 , Moscow - August 29, 1931 , ibid.) - Russian Soviet geographer , traveler , country expert , teacher and reformer of geography teaching, professor at Moscow University.

Content

Biography

Born in Moscow. In 1897 he graduated from the natural department of Moscow University with a diploma of I degree. In the same year he was arrested on charges of political unreliability, and therefore was not left at the department at the university. In his student years, he studied under the guidance of Professor M. A. Menzbir (1855-1935).

After university I was at a teacher's job. Together with innovative teachers A. S. Barkov , A. A. Kruber and S. V. Chefranov, he acts as a transformer of teaching in Russia and in 1900-1904 he created a number of textbooks and manuals on geography and methodological manuals, repeatedly reprinted and played a large role in training several generations of teachers.

Since 1909 - Privatdocent of the Department of Geography, Moscow University . In 1911, together with a group of professors and teachers, he left the university in protest against the reactionary activities of the Minister of Education L.A. Casso .

In 1911-1913 he taught in high school; since 1913 - at the Moscow Agricultural Institute , the People’s University named after Shanyavsky and at the Higher Women's Courses .

In the spring of 1917 he returned to Moscow University as an assistant professor. Since 1918 - professor.

In the Soviet period, he took an active part in the work of the Committee of the North at the All-Russian Central Executive Committee , the Committee for Nature Protection at Glavnauke, the Geographical Society and many other scientific societies.

Travel and research

Visited the central and southern parts of the Russian Plain . He conducted expeditionary research in the Crimea and the Caucasus , Ukraine , the Southern Urals and the Pamirs , the Kola Peninsula and Kolyma , Altai and Trans-Urals , on the Kanin Peninsula . He traveled a lot in Scandinavia , Western Europe , Turkey , Egypt , Syria .

He climbed Mount Vesuvius and Etna , studied karst landscapes of the Crimea and Western Europe, lakes of Northern Spain , glaciers of the Alps , the Caucasus and Central Asia .
