Biography
Mikhail Chebotkov was born in the Litvinovsky district of the Rostov region . In 1942, he was called up as a minor to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He served in the 11th Guards Reconnaissance Company of the 14th Guards Rifle Division of the 57th Army of the Steppe Front , in a platoon under the command of Lieutenant Shopin . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1] .
On September 20, 1943, Chebotkov’s unit, among other units, reached the Dnieper and concentrated on the approaches to the city of Verkhnedneprovsk in the Dnipropetrovsk region . To capture the island on the Dnieper, which had about 10 machine gun points, a detachment was assembled, which included senior lieutenant Andrei Gryaznov , lieutenant Alexander Shopin, as well as the Red Army Chebotkov, Obednyak , Tokarev , Chomutov, Strogalev and Miroshnichenko. Chebotkov was given the task of delivering ammunition after the seizure of the bridgehead. On the night of September 24-25 , the scouts crossed over to the island. They managed to knock the enemy out of several trenches. For some time, due to the massive fire, Chebotkov could not sail away from the left bank by boat, but nevertheless he was able to force a water barrier and deliver the ammunition to the group. At the seized bridgehead, the group held out, defending themselves against superior enemy forces for two days and two nights. None of the group died, only Chebotkov was slightly injured. During this battle, five fighters of the group - Gryaznov, Shopin, Obednyak, Tokarev and Chebotkov - were presented to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union [1] .
On December 20, 1943 [1] by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR , the Red Army soldier Mikhail Chebotkov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] under number 5996 [2] .
After demobilization, he returned to his homeland, worked as a collective farmer on the New Life collective farm . At the end of 1946, Chebotkov was arrested on charges of rape and murder by negligence, and on January 8, 1947, the People's Court of the Kolushkinsky District of the Rostov Region was sentenced to 3 years in prison . At the trial, Chebotkov pleaded not guilty [3] .
On October 23, 1947, by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Chebotkov was stripped of the title of Hero of the Soviet Union [1] .
The further fate is unknown [1] .
