Story
On a mission in Nigeria , undercover operative Michael Westen finds out that he was "burned." For a spy, this is the equivalent of quitting. A spy agent does not have access to any government agencies or resources; his bank accounts are frozen and his credit history is destroyed. Michael barely escapes from Nigeria and wakes up, beaten, at a motel in Miami. In order to survive and find out who “burned” him, Michael enlisted the help of the only remaining “friends”: Fiona Glenan, a former IRA operative who is also his former girlfriend, and Sam Ex, a former military intelligence agent whom the feds forced to “knock” on Michael. Michael also has to deal with a family from which he fled to the other side of the world, especially from his mother, Madeline Westen, who is crazy about the joy of her son returning to his hometown.
Through a former acquaintance, Michael receives information about a small investigative work: the estate caretaker named Javier is the main suspect in the case of stolen works of art by his employer, Graham Payne. All the evidence points to work “from within”, and Javier, who has very little money, has no one else to ask for help. When Michael begins to delve deeper, he quickly finds out that Pyne himself staged a robbery and framed Javier to get insurance for stolen goods.
Michael shows Pyne the evidence of his guilt, knowing that the rich man just won't give up. When Pine and his bodyguard arrive at Javier’s home to threaten his son, Michael set a trap for them in Javier’s house. When Pine catches up, he inadvertently wounded his bodyguard with a pistol, and Michael has enough evidence to send them both to prison for trying to kidnap Javier’s son. Michael is blackmailing Pyne to clear Javier’s name in front of the police and provide financial assistance to Javier and his son.
At the same time, Michael is trying to contact his old government liaison officer, Dan Sybels, who refuses to receive his calls. Deciding on a decisive step, Michael sends Sibels a fake bomb to attract his attention. The plan works, and Michael finally gets a call from Dan. He says that Michael, most likely, was framed, but Sibel himself can not do anything. He says that Michael does not think to leave the borders of Miami, otherwise the FBI will declare a hunt for him. Returning home, Michael discovers an open door and photographs of it. Knowing that this is not the FBI, he is puzzled. Someone is following his every move. Among the photographs, he discovers a message: a travel brochure with the words “Welcome to Miami.”
