Dainis Ivans ( Latvian. Dainis Īvāns ; September 25, 1955 , Madona ) - Latvian politician, Soviet and Latvian journalist. He gained fame in 1986 by the struggle against the construction of the Daugavpils hydroelectric station . The delegate of the XIX Conference of the CPSU. The first chairman of the Popular Front of Latvia (1988-1990), later - a member (since 1998) and chairman (2002-2005) of the LSDLP . USSR people's deputy (1989-1991), deputy (1990-1993) and vice-speaker (1990-1992) of the Latvian Armed Forces . Editor of the newspaper Literatūra, Māksla, Mēs in 1995-1999. Member of the Riga City Council in 2001-2009, in 2001-2005 headed the Duma Committee on Culture, in 2006-2009. - committee on the environment.
