Biography

Born August 18, 1960 on the island of Rhodes . He received his primary education in Rhodes and in Piraeus , where he moved with his family in 1966 [1] .

Secondary education (gymnasium-lyceum) completed in Piraeus, and then, after successful exams in 1978, he entered the Preparatory School of the Higher Theological School of Rizarios in Athens, graduating in 1980 [1] .

In 1981, after successful exams, he entered the theological faculty of the University of Athens [1]

In his student and student years, he served as ponomarie in the Piraeus Metropolis at the temples of St. Spyridon, St. Paraskeva in Kallipola (Piraeus), saints, beskrebrenikov in Kallipol and chorister in the church of the Prophet Elias in Castella (Piraeus) [1] .

On February 3, 1984, he was tonsured as a monk, and on February 5, 1984, Metropolitan Prokopy (Georgantopoulos) was ordained deacon by the Metropolitan of Novo-Kriini and Kalamaria [1] .

In 1985 he graduated from the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens. For many years he served as a catechezator in the churches of St. Paraskeva and the holy Besberebrinniki in Kallipol (Piraeus). [1] .

In 1988, on the recommendation of the Metropolitan of Novokrinsky and Kalamriya, he was sent as a scholar of the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church to study at the postgraduate school of the Leningrad Theological Academy [2] , where he studied the history of Slavic churches and also mastered the Russian language [1] .

On September 3, 1989, Metropolitan of Novo-Krinjsky and Kalamariysk, Procopius was ordained to the priesthood with the elevation of the archimandrite [1] .

In 1992, at the invitation of the Archbishop of Athens and all of Greece, Seraphim began to serve under the Synodal Committee of Inter-Orthodox and Inter-Christian Relations, where he was employed in the sector of relations of the Hellenic Church with Slavic Orthodox churches, as well as with Fellowships of the Holy Synod [1] .

At the same time, he was originally appointed Assistant Rector, and since 1995, Rector of the Church of St. Panteleimon on Aharnon Street in Athens and Director of the Theological Boarding School for Foreign Fellows of the Holy Synod [1] .

For 17 years of his ministry in the church of St. Panteleimon on Agharnon Street, his painting and repairs were completed. In order to provide pastoral care for foreign Orthodox Christians, he conducted services in Slavic and Georgian languages. He also developed philanthropic activities to protect needy Greeks and foreigners, economic emigrants and refugees [1] .

The Archbishop of Athens and the whole of Greece, Christodoulus , whom he accompanied him in almost all the visits to Orthodox churches in the world, enjoyed the special trust of [1] .

February 4, 2003 participated in the interviews of Metropolitan Kirill (Gundyaev) with representatives of the Local Orthodox Churches during the VIII World Russian National People's Council [3] .

July 29 - August 1, 2003 participated in the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the canonization of St. Seraphim of Sarov in Sarov and Diveevo [4] .

In November 2005, he participated in the celebration of the anniversary of Metropolitan Vladimir (Sabodan) in Kiev [5] .

On May 2, 2007, he participated in the celebration of the 1100th anniversary of the death of Tsar Boris, Equal-to-the-Apostles in Bulgaria [6] .

In October 2007, he participated in the celebration of the 1400th anniversary of the Mtskheta Monastery of the Holy Cross ( Jvari ) and the 30th anniversary of the Patriarchal enthronement of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II [7] .

December 9, 2008 took part in the funeral service of Patriarch Alexy II [8] .

On February 1, 2009, as part of the delegation of the Greek Orthodox Church, he participated in the enthronement of Patriarch Kirill in Moscow [9]

On October 13, 2009, he was elected Bishop of Kernitsa, Vicar of the Kalavrita Metropolis [10]

On October 18, 2009, in the Church of St. Panteleimon on Acarnon Street (οδού Αχαρνών) in Athens, he was ordained to the titular bishop of Kernitsky, the vicar Metropolitan of Kalavria. Christianity , Metropolitan Alexy of Nikea (Vrionis) , Metropolitan Eusebius of Samos (Pistolis) , Metropolitan of Piraeus Seraphim (Mendzelopoulos) , Metropolitan of Nevrokopsky Hierotheos, Metropolitan of Patras Chrysostom (Sklifas) , Metropolitan Trif Orly Chrysostomus (Stavropoulos) and Bishop Pavel Neohoros (Afanatos) [11] .

On June 12, 2010, in a letter addressed to Metropolitan Ambrose of Kalavria, he resigned from the post of Vicar Bishop of Kalavria Metropolitanate due to the conflict. [12]

On June 23, 2010, the Holy Synod accepted the resignation and appointed him titular bishop of Hristianoupol, vicar of the Nicene metropolitanate.

In connection with a private visit to Abkhazia [13] on December 2 - 3, 2011 , on the part of the Georgian theologian, Basilia Kobakhidze, was accused of collaborating with the KGB and insulting the Georgian Orthodox Church . [14]

A member of several official delegations of the Greek Orthodox Church in Russia and Ukraine. In addition to Greek, he speaks Russian and English.
