Biography
Born on February 3, 1849, the son of a college registrar and Finnish landowner Karl Jacob Reingold De Pont.
He was educated in the Finnish Cadet Corps , from which he was released on July 12, 1868 as an ensign in the Life Guards Izmailovsky Regiment . March 28, 1871 he was promoted to second lieutenant and August 30, 1873 - on lieutenant .
He took part in the campaign against the Turks in the Balkans , was in a battle near Gorny Dubnyak, during the siege of Plevna, taking Pravetskaya from the battle, taking Sofia , fighting near Tashkisen and crossed the Balkans. For military distinctions awarded two orders. August 30, 1877 promoted to headquarters captain .
Continuing his service in the Guard of De Pont on April 20, 1880 he was promoted to captain and on January 14, 1881 he was renamed lieutenant colonel in the army infantry with the appointment to the 1st Nyulandsky Finnish Rifle Battalion. February 19, 1880 received the rank of the adjutant wing .
On July 1, 1885, De Pont received the rank of colonel and was appointed commander of the 5th Kuopio Finnish Rifle Battalion, and on September 10, 1887 he was transferred to the post of commander in the 8th Vyborg Finnish Rifle Battalion. On January 22, 1895, De Pont received the 3rd Finland Rifle Battalion in command of the Life Guards and was promoted to major general on May 14, 1896.
On January 24, 1897, he was appointed Governor of New Zealand .
On August 31, 1900, De-Pont resigned and went into financial operations. In 1903-1906 he was a member of the board of the Savings Banks in Finland and a member of the board of the Mortgage Society of Finland.
In 1906, De Pont returned to public service and, with the rank of Privy Councilor, was appointed Vazsky governor , but in 1910 he retired again.
He lived in Helsingfors and until 1914 was a member of the supervisory board of the insurance company.
De Pont died in Helsinki on April 1, 1929.
