Since 1775, the young musician has traveled throughout Europe, working in the opera houses of Prague ( 1775 ), Nuremberg (1776), Munich (1778), Berlin (1779), Brno (1781), Breslau (1782), Riga (1789), Dresden (1795), Dessau (1797), St. Petersburg (1800) ...
His first opera Gypsies ( German Die Zigeuner ; G.F. Möller 's libretto by Cervantes ) was staged in 1778 , followed by Anthony and Cleopatra ( 1779 ), Apple Thief, or Treasure Hunter ( German Der Äpfeldieb oder Der Schatzgräber ; 1780 , libretto by K. F. Bretzner ), “Rosamund” ( 1782 ), “Wild Hunt, or the Virgin in the tower” ( 1782 ) and others.
Part of the operas was written by Kaffka on his own libretto , because at the same time he composed and published novels. Kaffka, in particular, owns the historical novels “Ruins of Antiquity” ( German: Ruinen der Vorzeit ; 1790 ) and “Sages of the Cheshian” ( German: Die Weisen von Scheschian ; 1797 , based on Wieland ’s famous novel “The Golden Mirror, or Kings of Chesian”) , erotic-satirical essay "Hogarthian sketches for inexperienced, voluptuous and experts" ( German Hogarthsche Studien für Unerfahrene, Lüsterne und Kenner ; 1805 ). In addition, Kaffka wrote a number of works on the theater , including the book “The advantages of the theater and the benefits it brings” ( German Die Würde der Bühne und ihre Nützlichkeit ; 1801 ).
From the beginning of the 19th century , Kaffka’s life and activities were mainly connected with Riga , although for some time he also worked in Stockholm , Copenhagen and Graz . In addition to music, during this period he also actively acted as a publisher. In 1803 - 1809 . he published the newspaper Nordisches Archiv, where in 1808 and 1809 Wilhelm Friedrich von Keisler published his articles, and in 1807 - 1811 . also annex to it, Miscellaneen zum nordischen Archiv.
From the books published by Kaffka during this period, one can note “Necessary explanations for the writings of August von Kotzebue : the most interesting year of my life” ( German: Nöthige Erläuterungen zu der Schrift des Herrn von Kotzebue: das merkwürdigste Jahr meines Lebens ; Leipzig, 1802 ).
Published under the signature of Kaffka, “Statistical Descriptions of Modern Russia” ( German: Statistische Schilderungen vom gegenwärtigen Russland unter Alexander dem Ersten ; 1809 ) are considered plagiarism .
