Cadell was the son of Ainion and thus the nephew of Maredid and the grandson of Owain . In 992, his brother Edwin participated on the British side in a not-so-successful raid on Wales to overthrow their uncle. In 1005, Cadell and Edwin began to rule together in Deheybart. In 1018, the brothers were defeated by King Gwynedd Llewelyn up Seisill .
