Prior to organizing the World Rally Championship, Jean-François Pio held six international rallies on the Ford Escort in 1969-1972. The best place was the third, on the Rally of Austria in 1970. During these years, his navigator was the legendary Jean Todt . In the World Rally Championship Pio from 1973 to 1975, 7 stages started. In 1973 , he was a member of the Alpine-Renault team, which was practically unbeatable that year. The best finish is “silver” on the Corsica Rally . In the years 1974-1975, he acted behind the wheel of a Renault 17 , and twice got into the points area.
