Khatib

Khatib ( Arabic: خطيب - preacher, orator ) - a Muslim clergyman conducting Friday prayers ( juma-namaz ).

Before the actual prayer, he delivers a speech ( hutbu ) from the third stage of the department. The chair is placed to the right of the niche for prayer directed to Mecca (mihrab). Two hutbas are performed: the first is called hutbat al-vaas, that is, an exhortatory speech with instructive content; the second is called hutbat al-naat and contains the creed, recognition of the caliphs, prayer for the sovereign and the army of the faithful.

In addition to the Friday Khutba, the Khatib makes speeches during religious holidays, such as Kurban Bayram (the festival of sacrifice) or Eid al-Fitr (in honor of the end of the fasting in the month of Ramadan ).
