Fruit sapwood ( Latin: Scolytus mali ) is a species of weevil beetles from the subfamily of bark beetles . Distributed in Europe , in the North Caucasus and Western Siberia [2] .

Description

The body length of adult insects is 3-4.5 mm [1] . The body is red-brown, shiny. Head and pronotum dark brown, almost black [2] .

Ecology

They live mainly in orchards , but also in forest stands. They feed on fruit trees, including apple trees , plums, and some others, less often mountain ash , elm ( Ulmus effusa , Japanese elm ), hawthorn ( five-pistil hawthorn, common hawthorn ), cotoneaster multiflorous , pyracantha bright red . Damage trunks and thick branches of trees, both dumped and weakened standing, rarely healthy trees [2] .
