He became most famous as the author of the scientific treatise on medicines “ Opus Pandectarum Medicinae ” which he completed around 1317 . In most cases, herbal medicines , usually herbs , are described in the work. In medieval Europe, the work was very popular, at least eleven editions of the book were published in different countries.

Biography
Accurate information about the life of Matteo Silvatico has been preserved. Born in the 1280s , probably in northern Italy in Mantua . [1] He lived and worked in southern Italy in Salerno, where he taught at a medical school ( Italian: Scuola medica salernitana ). There he founded the world's first botanical garden "Giardino della Minerva" . He died in about 1342.
