Research

The complex was dated by A. I. Brozgul to the 12th century incorrectly. In I.P. Sheblikin's mausoleum is erroneously named "Shah Babaly." In the middle of the 19th century , the Kufic inscription on it attracted the attention of N. V. Khanykov , who named the village “Babili,” and in the album “Bab.” But the inscription was read by Khanykov with errors and omissions. Later, this inscription was fully deciphered and included in the first volume of the body of the Arabic-Persian-Azerbaijani inscriptions of Azerbaijan [1] . The inscription reads:

1. Amara Bin Binai Haza-L-Mashhad Li-Sheikh Az-Zahid Al-Qamnl.
2. Babi Ia'kub b. [And] smiled Gur Har. Sana yen wa sab'in sittami'a alayha fan.

Transfer:

He ordered the construction of this Mashhad (that is, the tomb) of Sheikh Ascetic committed by Babi Yakub ibn Ismail Gur Khar in six hundred and seventy-second year [1]

.

In the summer of 2011, by order of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan , archaeological excavations of the tomb began. The head of the expedition, Hagani Almamedov, said that during the work near the tomb, the ruins of the khanegah Sheikh Baba were also found, who supposedly initially served as a caravanserai , and then was turned into a mosque . According to him, there are 6 stone graves that are believed to belong to the soldiers. In one of the graves was a skeleton without a head, in another - a skeleton and arrowheads. Upon completion of excavations at the monuments, restoration work is planned [3] .

Architecture

The mausoleum is octagonal, the width of the faces is 3 m. The mausoleum was covered with an octagonal spherical dome [4] from thin slabs of stone. Material - hewn stone (limestone) [2] .
