History
The company traces its history to the private enterprise Kato Iron Works ( Japanese: 加藤 鉄 工 所 Kato: tekko: sho , Kato Iron Foundry) , established in 1895 [3] . Initially, the company was commissioned by the Japanese Ministry of Railways to produce locomotives and motor cars . In 1935, the company was reorganized into a combined company and changed its name to Kato Works Ltd.
In 1938, Kato began producing cranes, tractors , road rollers , in 1959 it launched the production of drilling rigs and automotive hydraulic cranes , in 1963 it began production of road and municipal equipment, and in 1967 began to produce single-bucket hydraulic excavators .
Since 1970, the company's shares are listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange under the number 6390 [1] . In the same year, Kato began supplying products to the Soviet Union . The USSR mainly supplied cranes with a lifting capacity of 20 to 120 tons on self-propelled special chassis, as well as hydraulic crawler excavators. In 1986, more than 800 units of equipment were delivered to the USSR for the construction of the Baikal-Amur Railway .
