The National Stadium ( port. Estádio Nacional ), also known as Estadio Nacional, is a football stadium in Oeiras , Lisbon , opened on June 10, 1944, on Portuguese Day . The national stadium seats 37,000 spectators. The Portuguese national football team holds home games on it . The stadium is owned by the Portuguese Football Management Organization, the Portuguese Football Federation . Since 1946, the finals of the Portuguese Cup have traditionally been held at the stadium, only five times since that time it was held at other stadiums. A total of 52 national cup finals were played at this stadium. The most prestigious international match played here was the 1967 European Cup Final between Celtic and Internationale . The match ended with the score 2: 1 in favor of the “Celts”. Celtic was the first British club to win the main club trophy in Europe. The team of Jock Stein , who achieved a historic victory, is called the " Lisbon Lions ."
