Simakov, Roman Nikolaevich

Born on March 28, 1984 in the city of Kemerovo.

Since 2008, he has been a professional light heavyweight boxer. Spent 210 fights in the amateur ring and scored 185 wins (120 ahead of schedule). In professional boxing - 20 wins (10 ahead of time), 1 loss and 1 draw. He was the Master of Sports of Russia and had 2 titles in professional boxing: the champion belt WBC Asia and the belt of the Champion of Russia according to the Pro Boxing magazine. He ranked 8th in the WBC world ranking, 4th in the Russian professional boxing ranking and 84 in the main World ranking ^[1] .

Roman started boxing since 1998. In 1999 he became the winner of All-Russian tournaments in Rubtsovsk and Kemerovo. In 2000, he won the “Championship of the Armed Forces of Russia” in Megion. This victory gave access to the main championship of Russia, which was held in the city of Kursk. The strongest boxers took part in these competitions. In 2009, with the participation of Roman held an international meeting with a boxer from Kazakhstan, organized with the participation of Kostya Tszyu in the city of Samara. Fight with Vasily Lepikhin

On July 2, 2009, in the battle for the vacant title of the Champion of the Baltic Boxing Union (BBU), he met with the defending champion of Russia, the undefeated Vasily Lepikhin . In the first round Simakov looked better, but in the 3rd, Lepikhin sent him a knockdown. Further, the battle took place with varying success. As a result, Lepikhin won a split decision

In 2010, he conducted 3 international and 2 rating fights. The first was held in Moscow with a boxer from Ukraine. In this battle, a belt was won for the prizes of the magazine “Pro Boxing”. In the 5th round, Roman won ahead of schedule and brought the belt to Kemerovo. The second was held in Estonia, the enemy was a German, in this battle the opponent was knocked down 2 times. In the summer he took part in training and sports gatherings in Ghana (Africa). He appreciated the level of professional boxing in this continent, he was high. After the training camp, on August 29, in the city of Pyatigorsk, an 8-round fight took place with a very strong rival in his opinion, who was an opponent of boxers belonging to the World Elite of professional boxing. This match did not cover the entire distance, as the opponent refused to exit after the 7th round. Victory was for Roman.

In November, there were training camps in Germany, Berlin, where he prepared and participated in sparrings with current world champions Arthur Abraham and Marco Hook . After the charges took place in Yekaterinburg 6-round battle, which ended with his victory.

Fight with Douglas Otieno

In March 2011, in the city of Kemerovo, there was a title 12-round fight, according to WBC Asia, with an opponent from Kenya, Douglas Otieno. In this hard fight, victory was won again.

In April, he conducted sparring matches in Germany with European Champion Edward Gutknecht , intercontinental World Champion Karo Murat and World Champion Arthur Abraham. In May, he conducted a rating battle in the city of Kemerovo with an opponent from the city of Miass, also won a victory. On July 27, he led a rating 8-round fight in the city of Nazran, in which he won. In August, I spent 3 weeks at a training camp in Germany with World Champion Karoli Balzai. He was the 8th in the WBC world ranking, the 3rd out of 23 boxers in the Russian professional boxing ranking and 74th out of 814 in the main World ranking.

On December 5, 2011, a fight with Chelyabinsk Sergey Kovalyov was scheduled for Yekaterinburg for the WBC light heavyweight champion's belt.

Kovalev arrived in Yekaterinburg on Saturday, December 3. Hotel RAMADA accommodates all participants of the upcoming boxing evening. The next day, weighed in the TRC "Alatyr." Fight

December 5, the battle began on a scheduled schedule. Kovalev, in his blog on the site vringe.com, described the upcoming battle as follows ^[2] :

I did not have a special plan for the fight: I decided that I would build on the situation, in other words, to improvise in the course of the fight. Previously, we have not met with Roma, although we boxed in the same weight category for amateurs.

Kovalev dominated throughout the battle. Roman missed a lot of hard hits. At 58 seconds of the 7th round, Roman fell, the referee stopped the fight. Roman got up, but then his legs buckled, he managed to grab hold of the ropes. After a few seconds, the 27-year-old boxer lost consciousness. He was carried away from the ring on a stretcher and immediately taken to the central city hospital No. 24 of Yekaterinburg. As it turned out in the hospital, Roman fell into a coma. Kovalev was awarded a victory by technical knockout .

December 5—7

An emergency craniotomy was performed, a large subdural hematoma was removed on the right. But Simakov was still in critical condition. At the site of the removed hematoma, constant hemorrhagic soaking occurred, in other words, hemorrhage in the brain. The operation lasted seven hours. ^[3]

December 8

Learning about coma, Kovalyov, in his blog on December 8 (10 hours and 20 minutes), under the title “The price of the title was very high ...” wrote:

“I am very worried about this, I feel sorry for him very much. I pray that he scrambles out. On Tuesday evening, I returned to Chelyabinsk, and on Wednesday my wife Natalya and I went to church, put candles and ordered a prayer to the priest for his health. I offer my sincere apologies to the relatives of Roma - God sees, I did not want him. Hang on, Roman !!! Well, I, in turn, want to express my gratitude to all the fans who came to support me, and especially to all my friends who came to the box from Chelyabinsk. Thank you so much friends. Now I will rest a few months from boxing and spend them in my native Chelyabinsk in order to gain new strength for the next fruitful year ” ^[4] .

Literally after 25 minutes, (10 hours and 45 minutes), despite the measures taken by the doctors, Roman Simakov, without regaining consciousness, died in the central city hospital No. 24 in Yekaterinburg.

Parents did not have time to say goodbye to Roman - their plane landed 30 minutes later, after Roman died ^[5] .

According to preliminary data, the cause of death was a severe head injury and brain contusion.

On December 9, Kovalyov, in his blog entitled “Forgive Me, Romka ...” wrote:

“In this blog post I want to comment on the battle with Roman Simakov himself. As you all saw, the meeting began quite smoothly and carefully, only in the second round I started to get better than in the first round. In the middle of the fourth round, I injured my left thumb, which had been operated on four years ago, and slowed down, letting Roman roar out and also somehow become more active.

After a successful attack in the sixth round, after which Roma was knocked down, I thought that he would no longer continue the fight. In any case, I really wanted to, because he had already missed a lot of blows before, and my finger also acted with pain with every blow from the left. Honestly, I was surprised at the stamina, patience and character of Roma when he stood up and decided to continue the fight further. If you look carefully at the record of the duel again, you will see that in the seventh round I did not make a single blow to Roman’s head and didn’t even invest in them, but just threw my hands easily. When Roma backed away, I tried to pierce the body from the bottom left, but hit his forearm. The novel "broke" not from a blow. At that moment I thought that Roma finally made the right decision and refused to continue the fight. When I came down from the ring and went to see Roman, he was no longer in the locker room. He was taken to the hospital ... Excellent was a fighter and a man. Eternal memory to him.

They tried with their manager to contact his parents, but they don’t want to talk to us either. I understand them perfectly, I understand their condition, because they have lost their son. My manager bought them tickets from Kemerovo to Ekaterinburg.

My next fight, if I even come out to the ring at all, will be dedicated to Roman. And the fee that I get for it, I will list it to my parents in honor of the memory of Roman. Forgive me, Romka, and rest in peace ... ” ^{[5] [6] [7]}

February 10, 2012. Kovalev in his blog under the heading "Flew to the training camp to America" ​​wrote ^[8] :

"Hello! Well, that ended my vacation, which I spent at home, in my native Chelyabinsk after the tragic outcome of the duel on December 5, 2011 between me and Roman Simakov. After what happened, I didn’t have a special desire to enter the ring again, but as they say, “time heals”, and two days ago I started training again. My vacation lasted quite long and intensely, for two whole months. I managed to stay with all my relatives, and then I myself took them to visit, flooded the bathhouse for them. Met the new 2012 year. In general, everything was at home. After the fight with Roman Simakov, the promotional company Main Events showed interest in me, so their desire and opportunity to organize a fight for me with a stronger and more serious rival compared to those that were before. ”

Memory

On July 11, 2016, WBA / WBO / IBF light heavyweight world boxing champion Sergei Kovalev, who won the Malawian Isaac Chilemba , said he would give his entire fee, which is at least one million dollars, to Roman Simakov’s parents who died five years ago after their duel. ^[9]
