Careers in Indonesia
The first major triumph came to Audina in 1994. At the Uber Cup (women's team world championship), 14-year-old Audina defeated Chinese Zhang Ning in the decisive fifth final match and brought Indonesia 3-2 victory [1] . Prior to this, the last time the Indonesian athletes won the cup in 1975. Two years later, the Indonesian national team with Audina in the composition again became the owners of the prestigious cup, defeating the Chinese women 4-1 in the final [2] .
In the same year, Audina made her debut at the Summer Olympics . At competitions in Atlanta, the Indonesian badminton player passed the preliminary rounds without any problems. In the semifinals, Audina defeated strong Korean Kim Ji Hyun (11-6, 9-11, 11-1). In the finale, Audine was opposed by another South Korean athlete, Pan Su Hyun . Mia was not able to show her best game and lost to 6-11, 7-11, becoming the silver medalist of the games.
In 1998, Audina won her last title with Indonesia, becoming the silver medalist of the Uber Cup. Soon Audina married a Dutch citizen and decided to change her citizenship.
Relocation to the Netherlands
At the 2000 Olympics, Audina already represented the Dutch team. After winning two matches, the Dutch badminton player in the quarterfinals met with the Danish Camilla Martin , who had already beaten at the same stage four years ago. This time, the athlete from Denmark was much stronger (11-2, 11-1).
In 2003, Audina won her first world championship medal, winning a bronze medal at the Birmingham Championship .
At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Audina was considered one of the main contenders for the victory. For 4 matches, the Dutchwoman lost in only one set and deservedly reached the final, where she was opposed by long-time acquaintance Chinese woman Zhang Ning . In 2006, Audina won a bronze medal at one of England 's most prestigious badminton tournaments. At the end of the season, Mia Audina decided to end her sports career.
