Emblem Description
“In a silver field on top of a black circle, a star composed of four large gold and four small azure (blue, blue) rhombuses ; a black tip with a gold border with a recess from the bottom with widened edges. "
Symbolism Description
The coat of arms is based on a shield, at the base of which is given a profile image of a quarry with a drawing of its sides, made in gold on a black background.
The main figure is located in the center. It is a black circle in a silver field, intersected by a rose of winds . A symbolic image of the iron ore quarry is formed against the background of the snowy nature of the northern region (on the general plan of the city, the quarry with its elastic rings sharply contrasts with the rectangularity of the urban area).
The development of iron ore is the main city-forming factor, so this is the main attribute of the coat of arms of the city. The diagonal elements of the wind rose are represented by blue magnetite crystals having the shape of octahedrons .
Azure (blue) in heraldry is a symbol of honor, glory, devotion, truth, beauty, virtue and clear sky.
The black color in heraldry symbolizes prudence, wisdom, modesty, honesty and eternity of being.
Gold in heraldry is a symbol of the highest value, greatness, strength, strength, generosity.
Silver in heraldry is a symbol of simplicity, perfection, wisdom, nobility, peace, and mutual cooperation.
Coat of Arms History
The coat of arms of the Kovdor district was developed on the basis of the coat of arms of the city of Kovdor, which was approved by the executive committee of the Kovdor city council of people's deputies in October 1980 according to the project of architect Mikhail Ivanovich Yakovlev .
The emblem of the city was a French shield crossed by a golden belt with a serrated ledge below. The belt represents a stylized image of an iron ore quarry with a drawing of its sides. At the tip of the black color is the gold conventional chemical sign of iron Fe . In the upper silver field is a golden “wind rose” superimposed on a black ball. The diagonal elements of the "wind rose" symbolized magnetite crystals in the form of octahedrons. The contrast of silver and black colors of the coat of arms meant: decisive intervention of a person who wants to have black metal in the virgin snow-covered nature of the North.
In 2000, the Union of Heraldists of Russia finalized the initial coat of arms of Kovdor, and after approval by the city authorities and making it to the State Heraldry Register of the Russian Federation, it became the official symbol of the Kovdorsky District urban district.
The coat of arms of the district was approved by decision No. 24 of the Kovdorsky District Duma of March 13, 2000 and entered in the State Heraldry Register of the Russian Federation under No. 597.
