TürkmenÄlem 52 ° E

TürkmenÄlem 52 ° E / MonacoSat is the first Turkmen communications satellite [1] , built by the French company Thales Alenia Space [2] on the basis of the Spacebass satellite platform. The launch was carried out on May 17, 2015 local time from Cape Canaveral [3] . The satellite is located in a geostationary orbit at an altitude of 35786 kilometers from the surface of the Earth [4] . The satellite covers most of Central Asia and part of Europe.

Satellite Operation

It is planned that the satellite will serve in orbit for 15 years. According to the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov , “the presence of its own satellite should accelerate the development of communication systems and the Internet , television, contribute to the implementation of environmental programs, improve methods for exploring new fields, as well as the successful implementation of a number of other state programs” [5] . The first artificial space satellite of Turkmenistan, the American company will send into orbit.

Some media reported [6] that the satellite will be delivered to the geostationary orbit from the Chinese cosmodrome, Sichan in southwestern China [7] . However, due to changes in legislation, some US components of the new satellite cannot be transferred to China. This forced the project participants to make adjustments to the plans to launch the Turkmen satellite into space, and to transfer them to the United States, the cosmodrome at Cape Canaveral .

Uzbekistan has invested $ 20 million dollars as an aid in the development of information technology in Turkmenistan.

Thus, the French company Thales “Alenia Space”, which is involved in the design, construction and launch of the Turkmen satellite, has signed a contract with the American company “ SpaceX ”, which will put it into permanent orbit, using a two-stage liquid-propelled carrier rocket - Falcon 9 [ 1] .

The launch of the satellite is scheduled for the first half of 2015. After launch, control and management will be transferred to the newly created National Space Agency of Turkmenistan .

According to the contract between Space Systems International-Monaco SAM and the Ministry of Communications of Turkmenistan , the satellite is planned to be deployed at 52 degrees east longitude, at an altitude of 35786 kilometers from the Earth’s surface, over the territory of Turkmenistan.

The first national satellite of Turkmenistan is created on the basis of the French satellite “Spacebus 4000”, which will weigh about 4,500 kg, and belongs to the medium-sized satellites of the modern generation, already designed to broadcast HD-television and streaming multimedia [1] .

It is expected that the presence of its own satellite should accelerate the development of communication systems and the Internet, television, contribute to the implementation of environmental programs, improve methods for exploring new deposits, and increase the level of telecommunication coverage of the country [4] .

The satellite will broadcast to parts of Europe, Asia and Africa. He will have 38 transponders. It will be controlled from the ground control center located on the territory of Turkmenistan in the Akhal province [7] , as well as from the backup control center in the Dashoguz province [8] .

Orbiting

TurkmenAlem 52.0E was launched into orbit on April 28, 2015 at 07:03 local time from the Canaveral Cosmodrome ( USA ) [9] . The launch was carried out by the Falcon 9 launch vehicle , which depicted the coat of arms of Turkmenistan .
