History
The community was created in 1970 by merging the communities of Krabbendijk, Kreiningen, Ryland-Bath, Varde and Ierseke. As the name of the community, the name of the city was taken, which was once located a little to the north, but was destroyed by floods (the last inhabitants left Reimerswal in 1632).
