Anomocephalus

Anomocephalus ( lat. Anomocephalus ) - a genus of synapsids from primitive anomodonts . The primitiveness of the anomocephalus is that it retained a complete set of teeth in both jaws, while in its descendants, dicynodonts , the set of teeth was reduced to only a single pair of tusks (and in some cases to a complete absence of teeth) and a massive beak that resembled a turtle covering the jaw.

It was discovered in 1999 in the oldest mountain range of Gondwana ( Williston , Karoo , the Northern Cape , South Africa ). His discovery was evidence that this group of herbivores arose in Gondwana, and not in Laurasia, as previously thought. He lived about 260 million years ago, in the Permian period, in arid territories in the vicinity of rivers and lakes, reminiscent of the modern landscape of Namibia or Botswana [1] . A close relative of tiaraudens from Brazil [2] .
