Story
The film is a film adaptation of the myth of the Canadian Eskimos.
In the vast northern expanses of Igloolik , several families of Canadian Eskimos live their everyday lives. Modest and affectionate Atuat was from an early age engaged to Oka, the son of chief Sauri, but her heart was given to the deft hunter Atanaryuatu. Evil and selfish Oka tried in every way to cause a quarrel with his rival, he showed open disdain and hostility towards Atanaryuat and his brother.
On one of the holidays, he offered to decide by force who among the young men would have Atuat. In a duel, Atanarjuat conquered, immediately declaring his marriage to Atuat. Oka, at the insistence of his father, was forced to concede, but waited for the right occasion to avenge a successful foe.
After the birth of his son, Atuat spent all his free time on the child, and by common agreement Atanariyuat brought his second wife - the beautiful Puiya, Oka's sister. She behaved provocatively, shifting all the hard work onto other people's shoulders, and soon she was caught trying to seduce Amakyuac, brother of Atanarjuat. Atanarjuat expelled the adulteress. Returning to her father, Puia shifted the blame to the family of hunters, and Oka got a chance to crack down on her enemy. Watching the moment when the brothers were asleep after a hard hunt, he and his assistants attacked them. Amakuyak was instantly killed, but Atanarijuat managed to escape. Absolutely naked, he hid from his pursuers, confident that he had no chance to survive in the harsh Arctic tundra.
Salvation for the hunter was the accidentally found parking of an elderly couple, long leading a solitary life. They went out the fugitive and helped them back home. There, Atanariyuat learned that Oka, while seeking the reciprocity of Atuat, raped her and killed his father, who was trying to reason with the prodigal son. Atanarjuat lured his enemies into a cunning trap, but gave them life, not wanting to produce violence. The mother of the murdered leader, the grandmother of the villains, cursed the criminals and condemned to eternal exile.
