Biography

Born into a noble family in 1821 in the Pskov province . The son of the senator, Lieutenant General Kushelev Egor Andreevich .

At the end of the Page Corps, in 1839 (his name was written on a marble plank), he was made from sergeant-major in the ensign of the Life Guards of the Preobrazhensky Regiment .

December 6, 1840 was appointed an adjutant wing to His Majesty. The following year he was sent to the Caucasus and took part in the four-month expedition against the Highlanders, as part of the Chechen detachment of General Grabbe , and he was in many cases and skirmishes. In 1844, he was granted 5000 rubles at a time, in the same year he was again sent to the Caucasus, where as part of the Dagestan detachment of the general from the infantry Leaders he participated in affairs against the highlanders, and for military distinction he was promoted to lieutenant and awarded the Order of St. Anna of the 3rd degree with a bow.

Upon his return from the Caucasus, he was seconded to the Inspection Department of the Ministry of War , and he was entrusted with many tasks personally by His Majesty: for excellent performance, he was awarded several expressions of royal favor , and in 1845 he was awarded a monetary award of 500 pieces of gold.

With the production of colonels , in 1848 he entered the front of his own regiment and commanded a battalion there. Since 1849, the commander of the 4th Grenadier Regiment . On April 19, 1853, he was appointed commander of the Carabinieri Field Marshal Count Barclay de Tolly regiment and in 1855 the commander of the Life Guards Izmailovsky Regiment. April 17 of the same year he was promoted to major general , with the appointment of His Majesty's retinue , and with approval in the post. Since 1856, he was also the commander of the 2nd Guards Infantry Brigade.

In 1861 he was appointed temporarily military governor of the Minsk province , and on April 17, 1862 he was appointed adjutant general .

Since 1862, he commanded the 1st Grenadier Division , and on April 17, 1863 he was promoted to lieutenant general . Since 1864, he was on indefinite vacation for some time. In 1866, he again returned to active service and was a member of His Majesty's Retinue, and many Highest Assignments were entrusted to him.

In 1872 he was appointed a member of the Military Hospital Committee. On April 16, 1878, he was promoted to general of Infantry , leaving him with the rank of Adjutant General.

In 1889 he was appointed a member of the Main Military Health Committee.

He died of a stone disease on September 18, 1890 in Wildungen , was buried there in the city cemetery [1] .

Interesting Facts

In the house of Kushelev, the Russian writer Leskov first read the story The Enchanted Wanderer . The story was first published in the Russkiy Mir newspaper from October 15 to November 23, 1873 , under the title “The Enchanted Wanderer, His Life, Experiences, Opinions, and Adventures” and with dedication to S. E. Kushelev.
