Vitr

Vitr ( Arabic: وتر - odd) is the final desired prayer, performed after a night prayer (Isha) and consisting of an odd number of rak'ahs . In the last rak'ah, a prayer called kunut is recited. Vitr prayer is performed individually (with the exception of prayer in the month of Ramadan , after Tarawih - prayer ). Vitr belongs to the category of “ Sunna-Muakkada ”, that is, an “approved” Sunnah which every Muslim should regularly adhere to and its abandonment is undesirable. Some Islamic scholars (mainly Hanafi) considered it one of the obligatory ( Wajib ) prayers [1] .

Performing Namaz

Namaz vitr is performed after the night obligatory prayer isha. Its distinctive feature is that in the third rak'ah the kunut prayer is read. In the collections of hadiths of al-Bukhari, Muslim, Nasai, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawood and others there is information that this Prophet performed the Prophet Muhammad. Imam Abu Hanifa considered the practice of namaz-vitra obligatory ( wajib ), but his disciples Abu Yusuf, Muhammad al-Shaibani, as well as the founders of three other madhhabs - imam Malik, imam al-Shafi and imam Ahmad considered the performance of this namaz to be desirable (sunna-mukkda ), but not required [2] .

In the Hanafi madhhab, the namaz vitra consists of 3 rak'ahs, and in the other three Sunni madhhabs it consists of 1 rak'ah. Under certain conditions, namaz-vitr can be performed with a large number of rak'ahs. Prayer is performed individually, but in the month of Ramadan it can be performed collectively, headed by an imam (jamaat). Since, in the Hanafi madhhab, vitr is obligatory, then when it is skipped, it is necessary to execute it at another time (kaza). In the Malikite, Shafi'i, and Hanbali madhhabs, the repayment of vitra prayer is not required [2] .
