Donald Rabindranath Ramotar ( born Donald Rabindranauth Ramotar ; born October 22, 1950 ) is a Guyanese politician and president of Guyana from December 3, 2011 to May 16, 2015 .

Biography
Ramothar graduated from the University of Guyana with a degree in economics. In 1967 he joined the People's Progressive Party , and in 1979 he was first elected to the Central Committee of the NPPG. From 1988 to 1993, he was the international secretary of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Guyana.
In the 1992 elections, when the NPPG under the leadership of Cheddi Jagan first conquered power, Ramothar was elected to the National Assembly of Guyana and was constantly re-elected after that. In 1993 he was appointed executive secretary of the NPPG [1] . After Jagan’s death in March 1997 , Ramothar was unanimously elected as his successor as party general secretary on March 29, 1997. [2]
In the parliamentary elections on November 28, 2011, the NPPG won 32 of 65 seats in the National Assembly. In accordance with the Constitution, the candidate of the winning party becomes the president. December 3, 2011 Donald Ramothar was sworn in as head of state [3] [4] .
May 11, 2015 was defeated in the presidential election and on May 16 gave way to David Granger .
Donald Ramothar is married and has three children [5] . In 2015, he divorced his wife by marrying 23-year-old Mariah Sudam, an Anglo-Indian woman.
