Jewish goat

Jewish billy goat, 2011

The Jewish goat ( Swede. Julbocken i Gävle or Gävlebocken ) is a huge straw-made figure of a fairy goat that accompanies the Swedish Christmas character Yulebukka . A goat is erected every year for two days at the beginning of Advent on Castle Square ( Swede. Slottstorget ) in the center of Gävle . The Jewish goat became famous due to the fact that almost every year hooligans attempt to burn it.

History

Jewish goat, 2009

The story of the Yevskiy Kozl dates back to 1966, when Stig Havlen got the idea to build an enlarged version of Yulebukk and install it in the city center. The first Yevskiy Goat was 13 meters high, 7 meters long and weighed about 3 tons. It was set on fire by unknown people on New Year's Eve. Since then, attempts to set fire to a goat have become an unofficial tradition; on November 28, 2016, it was burned for the 29th time [1] .
