Jan Matsuiker [1] ( Dutch Joan Maetsuycker ; October 14, 1604 , Amsterdam - January 24, 1678 , Batavia ) - the twelfth governor general of the Dutch East Indies and the third governor general of the Dutch Ceylon .

Biography
Jan Matsuiker was born in 1604 in Amsterdam. He studied law in Leuven , worked as a lawyer in The Hague , then in Amsterdam. Since 1636 he lived in the Dutch East Indies. In 1646, he was appointed Dutch Governor-General of Ceylon , and seven years later - Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies. In this post, he worked for 25 years - longer than anyone. During his reign, Makassar was conquered, Sumatra was conquered, an expedition to Central Java was organized.
