History
Municipal formation “Kaninsky Village Council” was established in 2005 . In 2005, the Kaninsky Village Council was included in the Zapolyarny district of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug [2] .
Until 1903, Nes and all the settlements on the Kanin Nos peninsula were part of the Dorogorsk volost of the Mezen district of the Arkhangelsk province , when they separated into an independent Ness volost with a center in the village of Nes . Since 1924, the village of Nes has been the center of the Kanino-Chesh Samoyed volost of the Mezen district, which united the nomadic population of the Kanin and Timan tundras. Later Nes became the center of the Ness village council of the Mezen district . In 1934, the Ness village council, with the settlements of Mgla and Nes, moved from the Mezen district of the Northern Territory to the Nenets National District . In the 1960s, the village of Yazhma , located at the mouth of the Bolshaya Yazhma river, 35 km northwest of the village of Nes , was classified as “unpromising” [3] .
