The Panchayati Raj Ministry was established on May 27, 2004.
Functions of the Ministry
The Panchayati Raj Ministry is responsible for promoting and monitoring the implementation of the Constitution of the seventy-third Amendment to the provisions of the Panchayati Law.
The Ministry attaches great importance to strengthening the capacity of elected representatives and officials of local government institutions, as well as officials involved in rural development programs. The Ministry finances research, seminars and workshops for the development of panchayati and implements the scheme “National awards for the best panchayat” in order to ensure economic development and social justice at the local level.
