Olethrius tyrannus (lat.) Is a species of barbel beetles from the prionin subfamily. Distributed in New Caledonia , Papua New Guinea , the Solomon Islands , Vanuatu [1] and Fiji [2] . For the larvae of the nominative subspecies, the coconut tree was noted by the fodder plant, and for O. t. salomonum - Araucaria columnari [1] .

The total length of adult insects is about 63 mm [2] . The beetles are dark chestnut in color. The pronotum and head are almost smooth, with some dull yellow hairs, more dense on the labrum (upper lip). The chest is not densely covered with long yellowish hairs [2] .
