Ivan Matveevich Medvedev ( 1921 - 1981 ) - senior sergeant , participant of the Great Patriotic War , Hero of the Soviet Union ( 1943 ), was deprived of all titles and awards due to condemnation [1] .

Biography
Ivan Medvedev was born on August 29, 1921 in the village of Chigirinovka (now the Shcherbakty District of the Pavlodar Region of Kazakhstan ). At the age of eight he became an orphan, was brought up in a family with his uncle in the village of Chastsy, Zvenigorod District, Moscow Region . After graduating from school, he worked as a carpenter in the “Renaissance” artel, then as the secretary of the village council, as an artel cashier, as a supply agent for Mostorg [1] .
In 1940, Medvedev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army by the Zvenigorod District Military Commissariat . In the army, he graduated from the regimental artillery school for the division of radio operators of the platoon control, and was appointed commander of the division of radio operators [1] .
From April 28, 1943 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War, participated in battles with German troops on the Central and Belarusian fronts, corrected the fire of artillery batteries using radio communications. In one of the battles he personally destroyed a German tank , blowing it up with an anti-tank grenade. As a result of the adjustment carried out by Medvedev, his units destroyed dozens of enemy tanks, 9 artillery batteries and up to 5 infantry regiments with artillery fire. July 19, 1943 Medvedev was awarded the medal "For Military Merit . " Medvedev also participated in the Battle of Kursk , the liberation of Sumy and Chernihiv regions . Especially distinguished during the battle for the Dnieper [1] .
November 18, 1943 Medvedev as part of the advanced group of Soviet troops crossed the Dnieper near the village of Romanovka, Gomel region . The boat was damaged by enemy fire and went to the bottom, killing three soldiers and the commander of the group. Medvedev assumed the duties of the commander. Having captured the bridgehead , he organized a reflection of the enemy counterattacks, continuing to adjust the artillery fire from the left bank of the Dnieper . On November 19, while repeating a regular counterattack, he was wounded , but did not leave the battlefield, destroying a German soldier and officer, after which he was taken to the medical unit in an unconscious state [1] .
On December 24, 1943, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR for "exemplary execution of command tasks and shown courage and heroism in battles against the German fascist invaders", senior sergeant Ivan Medvedev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal for number 2999 [1] .
The recovered Medvedev was sent to study at the communication school in Murom , but after the end of the war he was transferred to the reserve. Originally lived and worked in Moscow . He worked in the field of trade, was promoted to the post of head of the department of Petrovsky Passage . In March 1952, arrested on charges of embezzlement.
On April 23, 1952, the People’s Court of the Sverdlovsk District of Moscow was convicted under Article 4 of the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 4, 1947 “About criminal liability for theft of state and public property” for 15 years imprisonment.
Punishment Medvedev served in the camp for the construction of the Plant number 815, the future complex for the production of plutonium in the closed city of Krasnoyarsk-26 [1] .
Early released on July 2, 1958.
July 1, 1959 By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR Medvedev was deprived of all titles and awards.
After his release he lived in the city, Zheleznogorsk , where he died in 1981 . He was buried in the old cemetery of Zheleznogorsk [1] .
