History
The bloc also included a number of old members of the New Wafd Party , although it itself participated in the elections from the Freedom and Justice Party . The socialist popular bloc , dissatisfied with the entry of representatives of the old regime into the Egyptian bloc, left its ranks in October 2011 and formed a new alliance of the left-liberal, socialist and progressive-Muslim forces “The revolution continues.” The Socialist Party of Egypt followed the example of the SNB.
In the parliamentary elections of 2011-2012, the Egyptian bloc had 2.402 million (8.9%) of the 27 million votes, which provided 34 seats (6.8%) of 332. Thus, it formed the fourth largest parliamentary fraction. After the 2011/2012 elections, the Egyptian Social Democratic Party also quit the Bloc, criticizing the rest of the partners for being more divided over secular / Islamic forces than between the revolutionary forces and the remnants of the overthrown Mubarak regime. In September 2012, the Tagammu party joined the Revolutionary Democratic Coalition. As a result, all the former components of the Block ended up in other associations.
