Biography

Ademar Canavesi made his club debut for Belle Vista from Montevideo in the early 1920s and played for this team for a long time, in which many legendary football players grew up, for example, Jose Nassassi .

For the Uruguayan national team, the defender made his debut on July 14, 1925 in a friendly game against Paraguay , in which Uruguay lost 0-1 at home. In 1927, Canavessi participated in the championship of South America. He played in two of the three games of Celeste in the tournament - Uruguay won the opening game at the Peruvian national team 4-0, then defeated Bolivia 9-0 without Canavessi (the largest victory in the history of the America's Cup), and in the third match, after returning to Ademar , lost to the Argentines 2: 3 [1] .

With regard to matches with Argentina, Canavessi developed a real phobia : every time Ademar played against his neighbors, Uruguay lost. At the Olympic Games in Amsterdam, Canavessi was at first a substitute, then on June 7, 1928 he had a good match against the Italian national team in the semifinals (3: 2), but when he found out who would be the opponent in the final (Argentina), he panicked and got it so that he is not included in the composition of this game. This “tactic” worked for Uruguay, albeit in a replay, but managed to win Argentina and become the Olympic champion for the second time in a row. The semi-final game was the last for Canavessi in the sky blue T-shirt of the national team of Uruguay.

In 1932, Ademar Canavesi became the champion of Uruguay in the Peñarol [2] , and a year later he finished in second place with his team in the championship [3] .
