Geographical position
Frestrof is located 30 km northeast of Metz . Neighboring communes: Busonville and Vodreshen in the east, Remelfan in the southeast, Ollen in the south, Anselen and Estrof in the southwest, Chemry-le-Dô in the northwest.
History
- Commune of the former Duchy of Lorraine .
- In the Middle Ages there was the Order of the Cistercians .
Demographics
According to the 2008 census, 1,056 people lived in the commune.
Attractions
- Saint-Sixtes Castle of the 13th century ; ruins of the 16th and 18th centuries.
- Church of Saint-Etienne in 1764, restored in 1955, the bell tower of the XIX century .
- The remains of the Cistercian Abbey of the XII century . The abbey burned down in 1665 and was later restored in 1740. After the French Revolution, it was nationalized. Later, during the construction of the railway line, the territory of the abbey was divided into two sections: on one there was a bakery, on the opposite - a farm. The abbot's house was destroyed by the Germans in 1944 during the Second World War .
