In fact, the business part of Calgary is limited by West 14th Street from the west, South 3rd Avenue and O Claire from the north, the Elbow River from the east, and KTZD main railway line from the south. The business district includes three neighborhoods: Downtown West End , the commercial center of the business district, and Downtown East Village . The O Claire neighborhoods to the north, Chinatown in the northeast and Beltline in the south are also considered by many to be part of the business part, but they are not formally related to it.
The population of downtown Calgary is still relatively small compared with similar areas in other cities, despite major projects for the reconstruction and construction of condominiums and residential buildings . The total population of three microdistricts of the business part in 2009 was 12,455. Downtown West End and Downtown East Village are usually considered residential areas of the business district.
The Calgary Transit C-Train light rail route runs along South 7th Avenue, crossing the entire business part, and travel on this section of the route is free.
