Biography
Born on October 5 (18), 1915 in the village of Nikolskoye-na-Emanche (now the Khokholsky District of the Voronezh Region ) in a peasant family. Russian . He graduated from high school. He worked at the bakery in the city of Voronezh .
In the Red Army since 1935. In 1938 he graduated from the Ryazan Military Infantry School. Member of the battles on Lake Hassan in 1938. In the battles of World War II from the autumn of 1941. Member of the fighting near Moscow. Member of the CPSU (b) since 1943.
The 120th Infantry Regiment (69th Infantry Division, 65th Army, Central Front) under the command of Colonel I. A. Bakhmetyev on the night of October 15, 1943 forced the Dnieper River outside the urban-type settlement of Radul Repkinsky district of Chernihiv region seized and held bridgehead, reflecting five enemy counterattacks.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 30, 1943, for successful command of the regiment, exemplary performance of the command’s combat missions and heroism and courage shown to Colonel Bakhmetyev Ivan Andreyanovich, he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 1250) .
In 1947, officer Bakhmetyev graduated from the Military Academy named after MV Frunze , in 1958 - the Military Academy of the General Staff . He was in command positions. From December 1960 to August 1964, he served as deputy commander for combat training - head of the combat training department and a member of the Military Council of the 18th Guards Army [2] .
From August 1964 to December 1966 - First Deputy Commander, and from May 5, 1967 (according to other data from December 16, 1966 [3] ) to May 12, 1970 - Commander of the 6th Combined Arms Red Banner Army of the Leningrad Military District (headquarters in Petrozavodsk ). [four]
Since 1974, Lieutenant-General I. Bakhmetyev - in reserve, and then retired.
He lived in St. Petersburg and before leaving for a well-deserved rest he headed the department of civil defense of the financial and economic institute. He died on May 16, 2004.
