Biography
Shulzhenko Leonid Vladimirovich was born on August 3, 1913 in the village of Gelendzhik (now the city of Gelendzhik) in the family of an employee.
He graduated from the Bataisk joint school of pilots and aviation technicians of the Civil Air Fleet.
Member of the Great Patriotic War since 1943:
- in May 1943 - September 1944 - ship commander of the 105th auxiliary aviation regiment (Long-range aviation),
- in September 1944 - May 1945 - ship commander of the 104th auxiliary aviation regiment (Long-range aviation).
He made several dozen sorties on an S-47 aircraft for transporting goods and ammunition to the front line, as well as for transporting the wounded.
After the war, he continued to serve in Long-Range Aviation. Member of the CPSU since 1946. In the spring of 1948 he participated in the high-latitude expedition Sever-2 , and in the spring of 1949 - in the high-latitude expedition Sever-4 . As the commander of the aircraft, the S-47 made several dozen flights to transport goods, fuel and personnel of the expedition to ice airfields in the North Pole area.
Since 1959, the squadron commander Major Shulzhenko L.V. is in reserve. He lived in the air garrison of Ostafyevo, Leninsky district, Moscow region (now the microdistrict of Ostafyevo, Novomoskovsk administrative district of Moscow).
He died on July 20, 1987 . He was buried in the city of Podolsk.
Rewards
- For courage and heroism shown in the high-latitude expedition, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated December 6, 1949, Captain Shulzhenko Leonid Vladimirovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 7809).
- He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner (1954), two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree (1944; 1985), two orders of the Red Star (1943; 1949) and medals, including "For Military Merit" (1944).
