Beidou-2 ( Chinese trad. 北斗 導航 系統 -2 , manage . 北斗 导航 系统 -2 , pinyin : Běidǒu dǎoháng xìtǒng-èr , Compass) - China's global navigation system created by the PRC, which will become a competitor with the American NAVSTAR, European Galileo and Russian GLONASS . The chief designer of the system is Sun Jiadong .
The system will be able to help customers find out their location anytime and anywhere with exact coordinates of latitude, longitude and altitude, and will provide more secure localization, speed and temporary communications for authorized users.
On May 1, 2012 has 13 satellites, and will offer its services to consumers in the Asia-Pacific region . By 2015, China plans to put into orbit all 30 satellites of the COMPASS navigation system, a GNSS system fully developed by China. The complete grouping of satellites to cover the entire globe in the number 35 will be launched by 2020.
History
The formation of the Chinese global navigation system "Beidou-2" began with the launch of the first satellite in 2007.
The PRC is already operating the Beidou-1 experimental navigation system consisting of three satellites and providing navigation services in the PRC territory and adjacent areas. [one]
