History
The instability of the political system, the fruits of the reign of the last military regime plunged Argentina into a protracted economic crisis. The Peronist government that came to power, led by Carlos Menem, announced the inefficiency of state-owned companies in strategic areas - communications , military industry , finance , energy , etc. Since the early 1990s, the privatization process has begun - Entel , Somisa , Aerolíneas Argentinas , Gas del Estado , ELMA , FMA , etc. The national oil company of Argentina - YPF - one of the largest in the country, was acquired by the Spanish Repsol in 1994 [1] .
Argentina Energy Crisis 2004 [2] revealed the doubtfulness of Menem’s decision, and in the same year a new national oil company was formed [3] . Argentinean President Nestor Kirchner signed the decree on December 29 . The state owns 53% of the shares , 12% are divided between the provinces, the remaining 35% are in free float [4] .
