History

The company was founded in 1932 on the basis of the Oruzheinik mechanical plant: in the early 30s of the 20th century, small workshops were located on Iskrinskaya Street, where HELZ is now located. In 1931, their territory and buildings were transferred to the GPU of the Ukrainian SSR. This is how the weapons and mechanics workshops “Armsman” appeared, where a wide variety of products were made - from hunting rifles to arithmometers.
In 1932, the profile of the future plant began to emerge: a workshop was established for the production of small electric motors of the "I" series.

The big event at the enterprise was the organization of the iron foundry. It was located in an unsuitable room, where there was one cupola, producing castings for cases and electric motor shields. There was also a consumer goods workshop - a cooperage, which brought the plant considerable funds for those times, which were necessary for the development of the enterprise and for the increase in the production of basic products.

In 1934, the enterprise was transformed into a mechanical plant of the NKVD of the Ukrainian SSR, production of new products was mastered: electric motors of the I-10 and I-11 type, arithmometers of the Dynamo type and Grover washers.
On December 15, 1935, the Kharkov Worker newspaper wrote: “One and a half million rubles in gold we paid annually to American firms for Grover’s pucks. Looking at such a puck, another shrugs: what was paid for in gold? Is it really difficult to master the production of such trifles? It is not easy. Only the NKVD mechanical plant learned in the USSR how to produce Grover’s pucks . ”

In the years of the second five-year plan, the plant actively supported the Stakhanov movement. On the eve of the upcoming Stakhanov shift, the Komsomol members of the plant remained after working in the workshop to prepare everything necessary for shock work. And in the morning for two hours we met the daily norm. And the result of Stakhanov’s day is 380 percent of output!

At the initiative of the workers, a brass band was created at the enterprise - one of the best in the city. The factory jazz orchestra was very popular. Komsomol members of the plant made contact with Nikolai Ostrovsky, bedridden by a serious illness. And today in the State Literary and Memorial Museum of N. Ostrovsky in Sochi, a rifle is presented, donated in 1935 to the writer by the Komsomol members of the Kharkov Mechanical Plant. On the rifle is the inscription: “To the fiery fighter for socialism, the rifle and feather N. Ostrovsky from the KSM organization mech. factory of the NKVD of the Ukrainian SSR, Kharkov, 24.XI. 1935. "

December 21, 1937 Kharkov Mechanical Plant was transferred to the jurisdiction of the NK machine building of the USSR.
In 1938, the company was renamed into Kharkov Electrotechnical Plant - HEL3.

At the beginning of the war, the plant switched to the production of defense products - electrical equipment for tanks, shells of artillery shells, devices for mines and other products. At the end of October 1941, the plant was evacuated to the east of the country in Prokopyevsk. The Elektromashina plant was established on the basis of the KHEMZ workshops. HELZ did not work until the liberation of Kharkov.

In August 1943, the plant was a ruin. But now people appeared on the ashes and began to disassemble the rubble. Somehow it was possible to restore the lathe, but there was no equipment, there was no electricity, the only machine had to be rotated manually ...
In November 1943, by order of the People’s Commissariat of the Electrotechnical Industry, HELZ received the first post-war task for the production of small electric machines. Parsing the rubble, workers discovered two THG-41 electric motors. Their release was mastered before the war, drawings were lost. We decided on the found samples to begin serial production. The country began to receive the first post-war Kharkov electric motors.

By 1955, the plant was supposed to master the mass production of electric motors of the first all-Union unified AL-3 series in a silumin shell of various types and the mass production of the first all-Union series of A-4 electric motors in a cast-iron shell with a power of 1.7-4.5 kilowatts.

In 1950-1960, over 110 units of various equipment and mechanization equipment were manufactured and implemented at HELZ: drawing mill for broaching steel wire, aggregate drilling machines for simultaneous drilling of all holes in electric motor shields, chill casting machines for color casting, diamond grinding machines tools, insulating machines, semi-automatic machines for processing terminal boxes of electric motors and others.
During these years, the plant worked under the slogan "For the first time." For the first time in the USSR, HELZ introduced the all-Union series of A-series electric motors into production. The company was the first in the industry to manufacture motors intended for export to countries with a tropical climate. One of the first in Kharkov HELZ switched to a seven-hour work day. At the same time, labor productivity at the plant increased by 12.4%!

In 1959-1960, HELZ took part in international exhibitions in the Hungarian People's Republic and the Mongolian People's Republic. The plant’s engines were powered by the Lenin nuclear-powered icebreaker, the Soviet Ukraine fishing fleet, and the Georgia and Estonia motor ships. The plant's products were delivered to 26 countries.

In 1963, the Special Design Bureau of Electric Motors - SKBED was created. In the same year, HELZ was the first among Ukrainian enterprises to begin mass production of domestic electric pumps. Today, every third pump produced in Ukraine is made at HELZ, and the popularity of the BC 1.1 electric pump (Vodograi-Kharkiv) is worthy of the “Book of Records of Ukraine”: 3,100,000 pieces of BC 1.1 pumps came off the HELZ conveyor

In 1975, the company created an information and computer center and an automated production management system.

In 1975, the Ukrelectromash production association was created on the basis of the HELZ. In addition to HELZ, it included the Poltava Electromechanical Plant "Electromotor", the Dnipropetrovsk Electromechanical Plant and SKB of electric motors.

In the 80s, a series of AI electric motors (asynchronous international) was developed as part of the Interelectro program. An experimental batch of electric motors AI-80 was released at the end of 1983.

In the early 80s, designers have developed and introduced into production electric motors for driving high-performance sprinklers of the Kuban type. In addition, the members of the HELZ created a feed cutter with an electric motor for individual use. In 1985, the first 100 feed cutters were made. [one]

In 2001, HELZ became part of the Ukrainian Industrial Energy Company ( UPEC ).

In 2002, the plant's products were certified in accordance with the standard " ISO 9001: 2000 ".

In 2003, the company registered its own brand HELZ.

In 2008–2010 at HELZ, as at all enterprises of the UPEC Industrial Group , a comprehensive automation system has been introduced.

Since 2011 - the company has been transformed into a public joint stock company. [2]
